Seasons Greeting Friends,

Another Holiday season is here.  As I have aged, I feel more gratitude then ever for the blessings in my life.

Over the years, I have taught clients and they have taught me. I have had the pleasure of treating many children in my practice. Turning around a child with ADHD, Autism or other limiting conditions makes my job fulfilling. I am happy that parents see the value in treating their child with a healthy diet and supplements rather then with psychoactive drugs!

I been fortunate in seeing some people’s lives turned around from persevering with natural remedies, when it was a long road to health. What is easy is not always right. I am grateful that these motivated people allowed me to be a part of their healing and see what wonders a healthy diet, supplements and homeopathy can do.

Not many people can say they love their job but I have been fortunate in doing so and having a great group of proactive, motivated and loyal people in my practice.

I wish you all the best for this holiday season! Thank you for your continued support and referrals!
All the best,
Heather Caruso

DECIDE TO BE STRESS FREE, FEEL GREAT FOR 2008!

Many of us feel stressed all the time. There are health consequences to feeling tense. A quick survey by Holmes and Rahe found a positive correlation between stress and illness. Have you ever felt really well and pain free with good news? When you are run down and stressed, do you get a cold? People who fall in love, all of a sudden are no longer sick and depressed. A psychologist friend calls this the “Met-a-Man Phenomenon”.

Studies have shown that those who have had major life stressors or ongoing stress are at a higher susceptibility for disease. Some of these illnesses linked to stress are

  1. NERVOUS DISORDERS such as insomnia, depression, memory loss, low sex drive, anxiety, panic attacks.
  2. CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE like high blood pressure, arrhythmia, increased blood clotting, heart attacks and strokes
  3. GASTROINTESTINAL DISEASE such as ulcers, changes in appetite over or under eating, acid reflux, diarrhea and constipation, poor digestion of foods due to the blood flow to the extremities.
  4. IMMUNE SYSTEM DEPRESSION colds, flu, chronic infections, asthma, stress lowers white blood activity and antibodies.
  5. SKIN PROBLEMS acne, hives, rashes
  6. JOINT PAINS especially low back pain, neck tension and headaches

HOLMES AND RAHE STRESS SCALE

To measure stress according to the Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale, the numbers of "Life Change Units" that apply to events in the past year of an individual's life are added and the final score will give a rough estimate of how stress affects health.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT STRESS?

1. Choose to have fun and laugh!

2. Realize work is work. Your work is not going to visit you in the hospital when you are sick. Get out their and enjoy your friends and family!

3. Try the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). It is an unusual technique but if you get the right mantra, it works for a lot of people. The tapping hits certain areas that affect the pathway of the thoughts and breaks up the thought pattern that gets you stuck.
A mantra may be for example, “even though I lost my job, I choose to love and accept myself”. “Even though my wife took the kids and left me, I choose to love and accept myself”.  A couple of links to You Tube shows the EFT:

4. Take some quiet time. Meditation is simply sitting in silence. You don’t have to be spiritual to meditate. It frees your mind and allows you some time away from your thoughts.

5. Surround yourself with positive people and influences. You cannot fly with the eagles when you are scratching with the turkeys.

6. Try exercising or doing something different then your usual. Go to the theatre, watch a hockey game, travel to a little city you have never been to. There is a lot of fun out there if you find it!

7. Try a new supplement called ZEN AGAIN. I have recently developed a great new supplement that works well for stress without having a sedating effect. It has no side effects and reduces the hormone cortisol that is harmful to health. It works well for anxiety and anxiety.
