YOUR HEART, A TICKING TIME BOMB OR A BEAUTIFUL MACHINE?
What you are about to read here may disturb some of our readers, viewer’s discretion is advised! If you have high cholesterol, do you think it is a major cause of heart attacks? Guess again! But wait! Let us go back a few thousand years, picture us as the hairy apes we once were. Our relatives the gorilla and the monkey all manufacture their own vitamin C within their body. They do not have to eat foods that contain Vitamin C or become sick. Humans do not manufacture vitamin C themselves. We have to eat foods that contain it. One of my clients mentioned that Oprah had a segment about a group of people who ate like primates for a month. They ate 10lbs of fruits and veggies per day. Guess what? Their blood pressure dropped, their ills faded, they lost weight and felt great.
When we have inflammation in our blood vessels our bodies give messages to repair any leaks. We have this inflammation from eating the wrong foods, being too acid in pH and/or not having enough Vitamin C in our diet. Our body then will manufacture cholesterol to fortify the vessels to protect it self. This is our innate healing or basic survival instinct hardwired into our cells.
What is interesting is that the new research shows that cholesterol does not play as large a role in heart disease as once thought. According to Dr Ryke Hamer from the University of Tubingen, in his book Summary of the New Medicine, one of the leading causes of heart attacks has been found to be a loss of personal property, such as a divorce, loss of job, status or finances. In my homoepathic texts there is a remedy called Aurum Metallicum. This is suited to those high powered, type A’s, who achieve much and then lose it all. They will tend towards depression and heart disease. As mentioned earlier in the January Newsletter, the Holmes and Rahe Stress Scale, is a fairly accurate predictor of disease. Death of a spouse and loss of a job are up there. So you ask, what should one do about these things?
What Can You Do For Your Heart Health?
- Exercising not only reduces stress but it improves cardiovascular function.
- Reach out to friends and keep a good social network. It is good for stress and general happiness. Take some proactive measures such as go for counseling, check into Neurolinguistic Programming or meditation.
- Mother always told you to wash behind your ears and eat your veggies. She was right on both accounts. Increasing your intake of fruits and veggies boost your nutrition and change your pH to be slightly more alkaline. Keeping your body’s ph from becoming acidic, reduces inflammation, increases your energy and boosts your immune system. Reducing inflammation in the blood vessels also reduces cholesterol production.
- If you were reading the chimp story, Vitamin C in large doses helps reduce inflammation of the blood vessels. Linus Pauling, who won a Nobel Prize in Chemistry was the first to discover its benefits. He has designed an excellent formula with Matthias Rath for heart disease. A popular one by AOR is called “TLC”. This formula has 3,000 mgs of Vitamin C plus some other amino acids that help to restore elasticity to the cardiovascular system.
- Omega 3, Fish oil is good for your heart. You have likely heard this a hundred times. 1,000 mgs of EPA has incredibly beneficial properties such as it lowers blood pressure, reduces inflammation, it is anti-clotting and helps with arrhythmias.
- Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium are all good for regulating the heart muscle. People too low or too high in potassium are at greater risk for a heart attack. Typical dosage of potassium is 99mgs. Calcium and Magnesium help with the nerve conduction that regulates the heart beat.
- Tried and true, Hawthorn is still a top notch herb for strengthening the heart muscle. You can take it as a tea or a capsule. Follow the directions on the individual package.
*Be sure to seek the advice of a professional such as your homeopath, doctor or pharmacist about your prescription medications and supplements.
The Truth About Aspirin...
I have been skeptical about whether taking preventative aspirin was wise for those with a mild risk of heart attack, considering the consequences. Aspirin does help with pain, but it has a detrimental affect on the stomach lining. Here is a link to an interesting article debunking the benefit of preventative aspirin written by a Medical Doctor: http://www.mercola.com/2002/jan/26/aspirin_heart.htm |
